Getting Over 60 mpg Can Be Fun
There's nothing more obnoxious than a person with a new car. I've put more than 11,000 miles on my Prius so I think I can talk about it without offending anyone. That is, until I tell you that I'm now getting over 60 mpg in this weather since I'm not running the A/C.
I had to buy it, after having two VWs die on me within just a few months of each other. VWs are fun to drive, but I got tired of walking.
Here's the consumption monitor on the Prius:
Yes, that says 60.3 mpg from driving 89 miles around town.

You'll have to catch me first, but that won't be hard. You don't get 60 mpg. going fast unless it's downhill.

I'm jealous! My little Toyota 4 w/ drive probably gets only 15 MPH if I'm lucky. (probably has something to due w/ the fact there are several hundred pounds of tools/ tool box, ladder rack on the back and I tend to drive like a bat out of you know where....you're other post "people who need slapping" made me smile...there's deff. some "attitude" here..I still say you would fit in quite well on our crew!

That's a good consumption figure.
I can get up 3,7 litres/100km (somewhere around 60mpg) with my 1,4 litre diesel Skoda if I drive carefully and slowly. Speeding up from 45mph (a good speed on the windy roads here) to 60mph requires about a third more fuel.
Diesel fuel is appreciably cheaper than gasoline here too. And diesel is safer to use to light the stove at home.
